OTYLIA JEDRZEJCZAK

Twenty-year-old Otylia Jedrzejczak was always deeply religious and her emotional story begins with an accomplishment that no other Polish swimmer before her had ever done - winning an Olympic Gold Medal.  Her first gold medal was won at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece.

At the start of the 200m Butterfly, Otylia, with two Silver Medals already won, trailed chief rival Petria Thomas of Australia. Thomas, who only a few days before narrowly defeated Otylia for the Gold Medal in the 100m Butterfly, was in the lead. However, with a dramatic finish, Otylia won by 31-hundredths of a second ahead of Thomas. This was the start of a super testimony for all Christians everywhere.

Just before she arrived at the 2004 Olympics, Otylia read a book about a boy dying of Leukemia, told through his letters to God. The story inspired her immensely.

When Otylia returned home from the Olympics, Otylia completed her required appearances around Poland and then made a momentous public announcement.  She would auction off her Gold Medal and donate the money to a children's cancer hospital in Poland.  You see, after reading the book about the boy with Leukemia, she made a promise to God. “If I win the Gold Medal” she said, “I will sell it and give the money to the children”.
The auction was held and a Poland Grocery Chain bought the Gold Medal for $80,000. Said Otylia, "I do not need to see the Gold Medal to know that I won it, for it will always reside in my heart."

The people of Poland refer to Otylia’s heart as: "Otylia's Heart of Gold."

Ecclesiasties 5:4-5 tells us: “When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. KJV
